Webmaster Tools’ Holiday Update

Posted: 10 Dec 2010 01:43 PM PST

Webmaster Level: All

Just in time for the holidays the Webmaster Tools team has updated the "Search queries" and "Links to your site" features.

Search queries with top pages:
Throughout the past year we’ve made some significant changes to the search queries feature in Webmaster Tools. We've received lots of feedback about this tremendously popular feature. One frequent request we heard was that people wanted to be able to see search queries data for their site’s individual pages. Well we totally agreed that this would be useful and promptly set out to add this functionality to search queries. The fruits of our effort have finally ripened enough on the vine and are ready for you to enjoy. Now when you visit the search queries feature in Webmaster Tools you'll see a new tab titled "Top Pages". The "Top Pages" tab lists impression, click, and position data for the top pages on your site based on their performance in Google's search results.

If you click on one of the individual pages listed you’ll see a list of the queries driving traffic to that page along with impressions and number of clicks for each query.

Just like in the "Top queries" view, you can click on a specific query to see more detailed data and evaluate how the query is performing across the whole site.

To make filtering in search queries even easier, we've added pie charts to show visually the proportions of search type, location and traffic. Also in the "Top queries" view, you can now specify “containing” or “not containing” when filtering queries.

Links to your site with intermediate links:
Links to your site now shows when a particular URL redirects. If there's a link to your site that links to URL1 which then redirects to URL2, we are now showing the link from URL1 to URL2 as an intermediate link. We also added a "Download all links" option to all the tables in the links to your site feature.

Now that you know about these updates, please take a few minutes to check them out for your site. We hope it will provide you with a little bit of extra joy this holiday season. Let us know what you think by submitting a comment here or posting in our Webmaster Help Forum. Happy Holidays from the Webmaster Tools team!

FREE Websites! FREE Hosting! FREE FREE FREE!

Patrick Steil - Saturday, September 25, 2010

Ok, we see these "pitches" all the time... Get your website design hosted for FREE!  Sorry folks, but like your grandmother told you, "nothin's FREE in this world!"   There is a three tiered value scale you MUST use when considering the purchase of a website or really any software service (web design, web hosting, web application development).

  1. Fast
  2. Cheap
  3. Good

Which of these do you want for your website, hosting, development service?

"ALL THREE!"

Of course, I thought you would say that!  We all want all three, but the reality is you cannot have all three, you can only choose two!

Option 1: You can have it Fast and Cheap, but it won't be as good.

Option 2: You can have it Cheap and Good, but it won't be done very fast.

Option 3: You can have it Good and Fast, but it won't be cheap.

There are web site solutions for all three of these.  If you want to find out the best solution for each option, just ask me, or join our newsletter (see subscribe form at bottom of page)!

infraNET strives to give you the best of all three options, but we really try to lean you towards doing things the right way (Good) and trying to strike a good balance between "fast" and "cheap".  Good HAS to be the most important priority for you, or you are just wasting your time and money.  We are only interested in solutions that are going to produce the results you are looking for.  You can sign up for FREE websites all day long, but if they don't give you the functionality you need to support your BUSINESS, then why waste valuable time and money?

In another blog post I'll discuss the Top 10 things you need to look for in any web design / web site design / web site hosting solution!

Until then,

Peace, Joy and Love!

Small Business Blog Tip #4: Start an Email Newsletter!

Patrick Steil - Thursday, April 22, 2010

Happy New Year to All!  Are you excited about 2010??!  We are here at infraNET.  Our New Years Resolution?  To GIVE MORE!   We want to help Small Businesses all over North Texas, grow and become more successful than ever!

So last week we talked about the power of "making it personal"... hope you are starting to think about how best to do that!  Also, we discussed strategies for generating leads using Facebook.
Business and Technology Tip of the Week
Today's Tip is related to our last one: "making it personal" and is both a business strategy and technology tip!

Do you have an email newsletter?  An email newsletter is your #1 way to keep the conversation going with your prospective, new and existing clients!  We have discussed networking being such a powerful tool for the small business owner, but the fact is that if we meet someone who NEEDS our services, but doesn't NEED them "right now", and we don't continually follow up with them, we may lose their business when they are ready.  Your email newsletter will keep you in front of them so that when they are ready to purchase, they will remember to contact you!

A few newsletter tips:
  1. IMPORTANT: Don't add anyone to your email list that won't reasonably expect to get an email from you.  Otherwise it is just spam.
  2. Send the email from YOU or someone in your organization that will be the "face" of the company... people like to buy from people, not businesses.
  3. Make the subject line instill a sense of "urgency" so that they will open it "today" and not put it off.
  4. Use a professional email management service like Constant Contact (I personally recommend them) to ensure your emails are delivered and not reported as SPAM by receiving email servers.  (If you want to receive a 60 day free trial and a bonus $30 credit with Constant Contact, you can click here to sign up with them).
  5. Make sure your email newsletter content is also being created as content on your website via a blog, or adding it as an article on your site.  These newsletters are being posted to our NEW website that will be launched later this month!
  6. Plan out your newsletters in advance.  Constant Contact will allow you to schedule the sending of your emails in advance.
  7. Contact me if you need help getting this started!  :)
That's your small business technology TIP for the week... take action today before you forget!
Wishing you Peace, Joy and Love in 2010!

Small Business Tech Tips #9: Yelp.com and TransferBigFiles.com

Patrick Steil - Thursday, April 22, 2010

 Yelp.com and TransferBigFiles.com

Business and Technology Tip of the Week

Yelp is gaining traction for listing LOCAL businesses and having people from the LOCAL area participate in reviews of those businesses.  If you are a retail / consumer type business, you may need to encourage your best clients to submit a review for your Business on Yelp.

The second website is brand new FREE tool that can help you when you need to send very LARGE attachments to someone.  The website is TransferBigFiles.com and works great.  You simply attach the file, put in the target users' email address and it takes care of the rest giving the recipient a download link to allow them to download the file.

Enjoy your tips for this week... take action today before you forget!

Wishing you Peace, Joy and Love!

Small Business Tech Tips #10: Design Your Business with an Organization Chart - Cogmap.com

Patrick Steil - Thursday, April 22, 2010

Business and Technology Tip of the Week

Have you DESIGNED your business to NEXT LEVEL?  Stuart Miller, a local business coach spoke on how to do this through the use of an Organization Chart at last Month's Business Owners Network of DFW (BOND) meeting.

You can view a video of this at the BOND Community website.  This was a very powerful lesson in how take your business to the NEXT LEVEL.

We have found a great little FREE tool for helping you BUILD this Organization chart at Cogmap.com.  This website allows you to build out your Org Chart so you can begin to envision the business you will need to fulfill your personal and strategic objectives as Stuart mentioned last month.

Small Business Tip #1: How to find 100's of networking opportunities in your city

Patrick Steil - Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Get Networking!

Small Businesses need to establish relationships.  Whether you are looking for clients, leads, referrals, partners or vendors, Networking provides a HUGE boost to your business and is the least expensive way to create relationships.

Here are two web sites that have taken center stage allowing you to find and join networking groups in just about any city of the country (and perhaps the World!).

Meetup.com (see the bottom of this email for a sample... :)

EventBrite.com

Both sites allow you to search and find the types of networking groups that are pertinent to your business.

Bonus Tip:  Both of these ALSO allow YOU to publicize or organize your OWN networking or regularly scheduled group.  This is a very powerful way to build your own business.  If you want to know more about building your business in this fashion, let me know. If I receive enough inquiries I will send a new tip!

That's your Tech Update for the Week...
Wishing you Peace, Joy and Love!
